The Geriatric Medicine SEAP fellowship is a 2-year program mirroring the University of Toronto Geriatric Medicine subspecialty residency program that adheres to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Competence By Design Curriculum. Graduates of this SEAP fellowship can apply to write the Royal College exam in Geriatric Medicine and if successful, can apply to become Subspecialty Affiliates of the Royal College. During this program, fellows will rotate across the 4 academic teaching hospitals offering geriatrics training rotations within the city of Toronto (Sunnybrook Hospital, Unity Health, Baycrest Hospital and Sinai Health System/University Health Network Hospitals). Clinical rotations include: - Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) Unit -Inpatient geriatric consultation -Geriatric rehabilitation -Geriatric psychiatry -Behavioural neurology -Ambulatory (outpatient) geriatrics, including one half-day longitudinal clinic each week. Up to eight elective blocks can be arranged according to the interests and needs for the fellow.The clinical experience is enhanced by dedicated educational activities including: - Weekly academic half day teaching -Scholarly project: with mentorship and protected time during the program to facilitate project completion -Monthly journal club -Quality improvement co-learning curriculum: conduct a group QI project with a faculty liaison. Prior to enrollment, the program will work with the candidate to ensure eligibility to write the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Geriatric Subspecialty Exam at the completion of training. The stages of training according to the Competence By Design Curriculum are as follows: • 2-6 weeks in Transition to Discipline • 6-8 months in Foundations • 12-14 months in Core • 2-3 months in Transition to Practice. |
