The Department of Medicine is one of the largest in North America, with 800 full-time faculty members, 550 postgraduate trainees, and 20 sub-specialty divisions located across six fully-affiliated hospitals, four community-affiliated hospitals and more than a dozen additional clinical practice sites. One third of Canada’s and one half of Ontario’s internal medicine specialists received their training here.
The Department of Medicine is also a research powerhouse with $162+ million annual research funding. Our research generates new knowledge with the goal of meaningfully impacting internal medicine training and the care and health outcomes of patients and their families.
A commitment to equity, diversity and professionalism, and a philosophy of innovation, creativity and continuous quality improvement, informs all we do.
Under the direction of the Chair, the department is comprised of four vice-chairs, six physicians-in-chief, 20 division directors and upwards of 50 senior leaders.
Located at 6 Queen's Park Crescent West, the Department of Medicine is a short walk from many of the Faculty of Medicine’s fully-affiliated teaching hospitals.
Our staff members are here to help trainees and faculty with everything from application processes, to invoicing, research, appointments, and more.
