Duration:

1 to 2 years

Anticipated Start Date(s):

Description:

This 1-to 2-year fellowship will focus on the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and immuno-oncology. This unique clinical combination will provide the fellow with the opportunity to develop skills and experience in a novel area at the intersection of rheumatology and oncology that will allow them to better care for patients receiving these therapies at their home institution.

The clinical fellow will be supervised by three U of T Rheumatology faculty and would participate in the clinical care of patients in both the hospital-based setting, as well the ambulatory setting.

There will be ample opportunity for education (attendance at rounds, teaching sessions) and scholarly activities, including contribution to clinical database development and quality improvement initiatives in RA and immuno-oncology.

The specific objectives of the fellowship will include:

  1. To develop an approach to the diagnosis and management of cancer-associated arthropathies, paraneoplastic syndromes, as well as rheumatic immune-related adverse events (irAEs) secondary to checkpoint inhibitors and other cancer immunotherapies;
  2. To build collaboration and participate in multidisciplinary care (oncology, pathology, radiation oncology, radiology, dermatology) in the management of irAEs;
  3. To gain proficiency in the management of patients with complex RA using advanced therapeutics and non-pharmacological strategies;
  4. To gain experience in the conduct of “real-world” observational studies through recruitment and monitoring of participants enrolled in the Canadian early ArThritis CoHort (CATCH) study, the Ontario Best Practices Research Initiative (OBRI) RA registry, and the Canadian Research Group of Rheumatology in Immuno-Oncology (CAN-RiO).
