Description:

Objectives:

  • To be able to assess relevant occupational and environmental triggers of asthma from history and allergy skin prick testing.
  • To understand the appropriate history, physical findings and investigations of other occupational lung diseases.
  • To understand means of diagnosing work-related-asthma and to assess measures of asthma severity and disability assessment, from history, physical examination, pulmonary function tests and methacholine challenge tests.
  • To understand the appropriate use of other challenge tests in asthma, such as workplace challenges and chamber specific challenges.
  • To understand management of work-related asthma and other occupational lung diseases. 
  • To understand the differential diagnosis of occupational lung diseases and investigation of these other diagnoses.
  • To understand newer diagnostic modalities such as induced sputum and exhaled nitric oxide.
  • To participate in clinical research studies of work-related asthma and/or other occupational lung diseases.
  • To present the results of his/her research in occupational lung disease at local respiratory and occupational medicine rounds and at an international meeting, and to prepare drafts of manuscripts suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
