Gladstone and Maisie Chang Chair in Teaching of Internal Medicine

Dr. Panisko currently directs the Undergraduate Medical Education Program and the Year-3 Clinical Clerkship for the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He has previously been the PGY-4 program director for the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine, having served a six-year term. He won the Department of Medicine's Teacher of The Year Award in 2006. Dr. Panisko also plays a major role in faculty development and instructional development at the University of Toronto.

He is currently the co-director of the Department of Medicine’s Master Teacher Program, a two-year, longitudinal, one-half day per week course in instructional development for faculty and senior trainees. The program won the inaugural Faculty-wide Helen P. Batty Faculty Development Award for Program Excellence in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, in 2005.

Dr. Panisko has won several faculty-wide, hospital-wide, and academy-wide awards for excellence in clinical teaching. These include the Faculty-wide Dr. Mary E. Hollington Award (given by the graduates to the best clinical teacher in the Faculty) on several occasions and the Faculty-wide, W. T. Aikins Award for individual teaching excellence. He has also been awarded the Canadian Association of Medical Education National Merit Award and the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine’s Sir William Osler Award.

At the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Panisko currently serves as the co-chair for the national Oral Examination in internal medicine after having served as vice-chair for three previous years. He has also co-chaired the National Clerkship Directors and Administrators Professional Development Day for the Association of Faculties of Medicine Clerkship Group at the Canadian Conference of Medical Education for the past three years.
