The Fostering Humanism and Professionalism program is recruiting now for the third iteration of this faculty development program. Below are testimonials from the 2016 cohort, and have included verbatim comments in this year’s letter to chairs for recommendations for the 2017 session.
Here are a few quotes from the testimonials.
"…excellent course, which I thought was really thought-provoking and insightful. Great opportunity for personal reflection. A course that all faculty should consider doing and would benefit from." Michael Geary, OBGYN
“It was great to hear from the experts in the field but I have to repeat what others have said - for me it was an enriching and safe environment that allowed us to share stories and experiences - many of which have probably never been shared before. It made me think, made me reflect and I hope made me a more thoughtful, caring and better person and physician.” Lorretta Daniel, Medicine
“...what I came away with was a renewed commitment to the humanism with which I entered the profession, and an optimism that through initiatives like this course we can entrench the importance of doing the right thing, the right way, all the time.” Jacqueline Spayne, Radiation Oncology
We are looking to identify individuals in your department or in other departments who would be interested in taking the course for their personal professional growth to become a resource in the areas of humanism and professionalism and to contribute to our evolving community of practice. Together we are committed to contributing to transformative change in patient care and in the learning environment at the University of Toronto.
This year’s course consists of 10 sessions held Mondays from 4-7 PM from September 18th through December 11th, at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute. There is no cost and a light snack will be served. This is the first year that the course will be conducted as a certificate programme meeting university CPD requirements.
