As you know we have started many new initiatives this year—including a new block schedule for rounds and we have GU, pediatrics, neurology, CV and toxicology to look forward to in 2017. Our rounds have been buzzing with all the staff attendance that brings so much depth and conversation to our learning—it’s been absolutely astounding to see a full room every week!
As a reminder you can sign up for staff attendance . Kaif Pardhan wins the gold star for most attendance since this year has started.
This year we also started our new wellness initiative, Ice Cream Rounds, and are looking forward to discussing managing failure, mindfulness, and emotions in medical life in 2017. These sessions have been well received by the residents and are spurring many important discussions between staff and residents that we believe are creating a more open and supportive wellness culture at EM U of T. We know there are lots of staff eager to attend these rounds but for now they are going to be for residents only.
We have restructured our resident representation into a Resident Committee, this restructure included adding a new position that has revitalized our social media profiles with Twitter, Instagram and Website! Thank you to the Resident Committee members (Justin Hall, Andrew Cameron and Lorraine Lau) for all their hard work and determination – we couldn’t do it without you.
We are looking forward to a great year ahead! During CaRMS 2017 we will be recruiting the best and brightest to Toronto. As well, we have both our winter and summer retreats to look forward to. In the spring we will be having our Resident Academic Day, showcasing all the wonderful research our residents and staff are doing—all staff and residents are welcome!
We are grateful for our amazing admin team Nima Heirat and Sawan Tate, as well as the leadership of program director, Nazanin Meshkat, and assistant program director, Aikta Verma. We are also grateful for the support of all the residents and staff this year, and want to welcome to everyone to join us at rounds throughout the year! If there is anything we can do, or any ideas you have for us, we are always available by email and eager to make this program the best it can be.
