We are pleased to announce that Dr. Kate Hayman has accepted a full-time appointment as assistant professor, clinician-teacher, in the Division of Emergency Medicine, Department of Medicine.
Dr. Kate Hayman is currently staff in the emergency department at University Health Network. She completed her residency in emergency medicine at the University of Western Ontario. During her subspecialty year, she completed a master's in public health with a focus on health in crisis and humanitarian assistance at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In addition, she will complete the Master Teacher Program (MTP) in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 2017.
Dr. Hayman's academic and scholarly focus is in medical education and health advocacy, particularly the improvement of resuscitation skills in the ED through simulation and coaching, and teaching health advocacy to medical trainees. She is an investigator for a CAEP-funded research study using simulation to evaluate a resuscitation checklist in the emergency department. In addition, she is a member of the UHN Simulation Committee, Health Providers Against Poverty, and the Decent Work and Health Network. Dr. Hayman hopes to assist in developing curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate students to formalize health advocacy skills training and improve residency training on the social determinates of health.
