New Faculty Appointment
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Erin O’Connor has accepted a full-time appointment as lecturer, clinician-teacher in the Division of Emergency Medicine, Department of Medicine.
Dr. Erin O’Connor is currently staff in the emergency department at University Health Network and on the palliative medicine in-patient consult team at Toronto General Hospital. She completed her residency in emergency medicine at the University of Ottawa. During her subspecialty year she completed advanced training in palliative medicine.
Dr. O’Connor's academic interests are in the role of palliative medicine in the Emergency Department and teaching emergency providers about pain and symptom management. She is currently working with Pallium Canada to develop a curriculum to teach emergency medicine physicians and EMS providers essential palliative medicine skills. Previous research work has been in the area of patient safety and emergency department crowding. Since becoming staff she has been actively focused on teaching, including academic half day sessions on symptom management in the emergency department and ethics at end of life. In addition, she has been invited to speak at both national and local conferences on the topic of palliative medicine in the emergency department.
