Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is working with the World Association of Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) to bring the World Congress to Toronto, April 25-28, 2017.

We would like to invite you to participate!

WADEM was founded in 1976, by 10 physicians including Dr. Peter Safar (a pioneer of resuscitation). Their goal was to form a, “think tank of global citizens” to improve the worldwide delivery pre-hospital and emergency medicine in both every day care and mass casualty disasters. A World Congress has been held every two years since.

The Toronto Congress will be WADEM’s 20th biennial meeting. More than 800 healthcare professionals, researchers, and students from 63 countries participated in the last Congress in Cape Town, South Africa in 2015, and we expect to exceed that for Toronto! There are over 20 Track Teams building the 2017 program. Our goal is raise the profile of this type of inter-professional collaboration and grow a network of “global citizens” committed to developing educational and consensus-based approaches that align with a world effort to reduce disaster risk and improve pre-hospital and emergency medicine, everywhere.

“Be inspired. Inspire Others.”

We hope you will join us in launching this initiative and share this with other staff in your hospital. Over the next one to two months you will see the program come together and include courses, meetings, major simulations, and other exciting events.

At the end of October, we will be inviting residents and staff to participate in building a "hospitality plan" for our guests. Stay tuned for more.
