It gives me great pleasure to see the launch of our newly-formatted Hematology Newsletter. As you can see, it aligns and integrates well with the Department of Medicine format for both website and newsletters. We are indebted to Jocelyn Lagerquist, communications officer in DoM, and our own Nina Chana for making this possible.

Our division is making strides in fostering cross-institutional collaborations at all levels. We need to double efforts to strengthen city-wide partnerships that help to address the challenges we face in delivering patient-centred care models that meet the ever changing needs of patients with hematological disorders.

Our residency and fellowship programs continue to see improvement in finding ways to equip our trainees as future leaders in the field of hematology in Canada and beyond. On this note, I congratulate our final year residents for their 100% success rate in the RCPSC Hematology Examinations.

2017 will be the 10th anniversary of our Divisional Academic Day (formerly Research Day). I encourage all of us to keep April 18, 2017 open to enable us to celebrate our growth and development over the past decade. Let’s make it a record both in submission of abstracts and attendance.

On March 1st in the coming year, we will be gathering together for a half-day retreat to evaluate our progress as a University division. We will also strategize and plan towards accelerating our progress, overcoming barriers and aligning our division to the strategic goals of the DoM. I look forward to seeing a big swell of engagement and participation from all our faculty and trainees. We are in this together and we will journey together!
