Dr. Renita Ahluwalia, who currently practices in academic and private practice and is cross-appointed to Women’s College and the University Health Network, has recently received an appointment at the rank of Lecturer at the University of Toronto.
 

Faisal Al-Mohammedi

Dr. Faisal Al-Mohammedi, who is currently practices in the community and is an integral part of the Dermatology Residency Training Program, has received an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto.
 

Trevor Champagne

Women's College Hospital, QuIRC Research Award
Dr. Champagne was awarded a Quality Improvement Research Award from the Women's College Hospital Quality Improvement Research Committee (QuIRC) for his project entitled "Teledermatology for Inpatients: A Quality Assurance Evaluation”. This $10,000 grant will allow for the investigation into the feasibility and acceptable service design for serving inpatient call services with consultative dermatology using teledermatology.
 

Aaron Drucker

PSI Foundation, New Investigator Grant
Dr. Drucker was awarded with a New Investigator Grant from the PSI Foundation, a physician-centred non-profit foundation focused on improving the health of Ontarians. The three-year, $250,000 grant will support Dr. Drucker’s research on exploring the prevalence and disparities associated with atopic dermatitis in Ontario.

Eczema Society of Canada, 2018 Research Grant
Congratulations to Dr. Drucker on receiving a Research Grant from the Eczema Society of Canada. The $25,000 in funding will further support Dr. Drucker’s research in completing a meta-analysis of systemic treatments for eczema.
 

Anthony Mak

University of Toronto, 2018 Postgraduate Medical Education Research Awards
The Postgraduate Awards Committee at the Faculty of Medicine awarded Dr. Anthony Mak the Joseph M. West Family Memorial Fund and the Starr Medal to support his future research in melanoma. Anthony’s research interest comes at a particularly important time in our field, where there are few dermatologist scientists but a strong need for basic research discoveries - well done!

World Congress of Dermatology, 2019 World Congress of Dermatology Scholarship
Further congratulations to Dr. Mak on being selected to receive a World Congress of Dermatology (WCD) Scholarship, administered by the 18th World Congress of Dermatology Fund. The goal of the scholarship program is to bring North American dermatology residents, fellows or young dermatologists, within 5 years of residency, to the WCD for educational and networking opportunities. As a scholarship recipient, Dr. Mak will also have his poster abstract displayed electronically as part of the Technical Exhibit during the annual meeting.

The above individuals have been awarded an inaugural MD Program Teaching Award of Excellence for the 2017-2018 academic year. This award is a new initiative introduced by the University of Toronto medical students which recognizes faculty in the MD Program that have attained Teaching Evaluation Scores in the top 10% in one or more of the teaching activities to which they have contributed. Congratulations all!
