We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Phil Doiron to the role of Program Director, Dermatology Residency Training Program at the University of Toronto effective July 1st, 2019. Prior to assuming leadership of the Program, Phil has begun working with Dr. Scott Walsh as the PD-elect (since November 2018) to ensure a smooth transition.
I am sure all of our residents and faculty will join us in acknowledging what a wonderful job Scott has done shepherding the program over the past 12 years. We are grateful for his dedication to our residents, his consistently outstanding educational activities and for sharing his passion for Dermatology.
In this new role, Phil will direct the University of Toronto’s dermatology residency program to ensure students have a comprehensive curriculum that best prepares them for their final Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada licensing exam and the rest of their careers.
As an Assistant Professor at U of T and WCH’s education lead for dermatology, Dr. Doiron is a clinician teacher and spends a significant portion of his time teaching medical students and residents from a range of programs, including dermatology, family medicine, internal medicine, plastic surgery, pathology and many others. He teaches in a variety of settings, including during his clinics while seeing patients and via formal lectures.
“I am excited to work closely with the residents and to be there with them through this transformative stage in their lives,” says Dr. Doiron. “It is a privilege to watch these residents develop the skill-sets that will form the foundation of their entire career. I am a product of this program myself so I know firsthand how excellent it is and am looking forward to experiencing it from this new perspective.”
In addition to his new role, Dr. Doiron will continue to see patients as a dermatologist in WCH’s department of medicine—both with a subspecialty in HIV dermatology and male genital disease, as well as general medical dermatology.
Congratulations to Dr. Doiron on this exciting new opportunity!
