Dear Colleagues,
At the start of Resident Doctor Appreciation Week, I’d like to express my gratitude to our resident physicians.
As we all know, patients, hospitals, and governments depend on residents for the provision of patient care. In teaching hospitals, residents work as front-line providers, managing complex medical situations and coordinating care across disciplines. In keeping with the CanMEDS framework, they are expected to be not only medical experts, but scholars, collaborators, advocates, managers, communicators, and professionals. They are also supervisors, teachers, and mentors of medical students and other trainees. It is a lot! And this work often comes at the personal cost of long hours, disrupted sleep, and time away from family and friends.
And so, to our residents: thank you. Your dedication and contributions do not go unnoticed. You are not just in training - you are an essential part of our medical community. Please know that we appreciate you, not just during Resident Doctor Appreciation Week, but throughout your entire time with us.
Sincerely,
Moira
