Description:	The Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship Program at the St. Michael’s Hospital Barlo MS Centre will train neurologists to offer specialist care to patients with demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system. The duration and design of the training program will be tailored to the specific learning needs and objectives of the candidate, with variable proportions of clinical and research activities. For interested candidates, opportunities may be available to pursue graduate degrees in research or education, while completing the fellowship. Core training will include adult and pediatric out-patient MS clinics and physiatry clinics under the supervision of several different faculty. Optional participation in neuro-ophthalmology, CNS vasculitis, and autoimmune encephalitis clinics can be arranged. Research involvement is strongly encouraged with several faculty mentors available. Ongoing research projects/programs within our MS group that fellows can participate in include: -The MRI in MS Research Program which focuses on advanced imaging of the brain and spinal cord and its translation into clinical practice -The Canadian Prospective Cohort Study to Understand Progression in MS (CanProCo) -Large databases: SMH MS Clinic Registry and access to MSBase (as a contributing site) -Epidemiology of neuromyelitis optica and related disorders (CANOPTICS) -Women’s health in MS -Laboratory-based research assessing sex differences in MS, the microbiome in MS, and identifying biological biomarkers across the spectrum of MS -Clinical trials unit Highlights An internationally renowned MS clinic with a diverse patient population of over 6000 patients Large number of faculty that will provide the candidate with a diverse experience and widen perspectives on patient care and supervise research projects Weekly academic curriculum covering all aspects of CNS demyelinating diseases delivered as lectures, case-based learning, and journal clubs Active research faculty with diverse interests who can mentor fellowship projects (outlined in detail above) International bimonthly video-teleconference Case Rounds with the Cleveland Clinic and the Cemcat MS Centre in Barcelona Flexibility of the fellowship with respect to duration and clinical/research time, so that the curriculum meets individual fellow’s needs and objectives Participation in the academic general neurology activities of St. Michael’s Hospital including teaching of residents and medical students Eligibility: Applicants must be fluent in English and have completed postgraduate (residency) training in Neurology.
