Stroke treatment in 2017: It’s about time.

Learning objectives:

At the end of the presentation, participants should be able to:

1. Be aware of the major changes in hyperacute stroke treatment over the last 20 years (i.e. why 1994, 2004 and 2014 are all ancient history);
2. Summarize the importance of timely assessments and interventions for ischemic stroke, TIA, hemorrhagic stroke and the implications of these time factors both for individuals, health systems and the general public (i.e. the need for speed – what to do if your patient, neighbor, relative or friend has symptoms); and
3. Appreciate the long-term impact of stroke (i.e. why “good” is not yet “good enough”) and how research across UofT (and beyond) is addressing these issues.
