Description:
Training future leaders in Hepatology is a focus of our unit. Over the years, many national and international fellows with diverse interests have trained with us. Our unique position as the largest liver unit in Ontario, together with proximity to Sick Kids, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and complex medical services provided at Toronto General Hospital, mean that we care for patients with a breadth of liver pathology that is truly unrivalled. Our rich learning environment and high patient volumes allows for the simultaneous training of up to 8 clinical and research fellows. Our Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Hepatology is comprised of 75% clinical time, the majority of which is spent seeing ambulatory patients including general hepatology, viral hepatitis and autoimmune liver disease. Fellows expected to supervise senior Gastroenterology trainees and Internal Medicine trainees providing inpatient Hepatology consultative services. Inpatient services will expose fellows to advanced, complex and end-stage liver disease and also provide opportunities for procedures including liver biopsies and endoscopy, should there be an interest. Clinical fellows will be active in scholarly activities including teaching, rounds presentations, research projects and quality improvement.
